The Fabulous Moolah
Her name is Lillian Ellison, however, to millions of wrestling fans she is
known as The Fabulous Moolah. This native of Columbia, SC has been a major
star in women's wrestling for decades. She started her career under the
banner of girl wrestling promoter Billy Wolfe. Her tenure with the Columbus,
Ohio impressario was short and when she left she affiliated with another
promoter, Jack Pfefer. The years of endurance and determination paid off
when wrestling history was made in Baltimore, Maryland on September 18, 1956
when she defeated Judy Grable in an all-girl wrestling tournament to become
the new Women's Wrestling Champion. Her days on the mat have taken her from
small venues to major arenas aound the world. Her years in the ring as well
as her leadership in the field of women's wrestling is worthy of induction
into the PWHF. Lillian plans to celebrate her eightieth birthday on July
22, 2003 by competing in a wrestling match!
